Quebec Prime Minister Francois Legault’s administration is expected to mandate proof of COVID-19 vaccination at liquor stores and cannabis outlets throughout the province this week, the Journal de Montreal reported on Tuesday (Jan. 4).
Under the new rule, unvaccinated people will still be able to access convenience stores—which sell beer and wine—but they’ll be essentially banned from legally buying hard liquor.
The logistics of such a policy—including how and where the passport will be scanned once a customer is inside a store—have yet to be finalized.
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is already required in Quebec at restaurants, theaters, bars, casinos, and more.
