The House of Commons on Monday (Feb. 21) passed a motion to approve the extraordinary measures in the Emergencies Act, which Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked last week to end blockades in Ottawa and at several border crossings, deploying (https://t.me/COVID19Up/13586) heavy-handed riot police that beat protesters while freezing the bank accounts of certain people supporting the Freedom Convoy movement.
The motion to confirm the declaration of emergency passed 185-151.
Joël Lightbound, a Liberal MP who earlier this month made headlines when he said “it was time to stop dividing Canadians” and called out his own party for demonizing people who question the government’s COVID-19 policy, acknowledged invoking the act was “a slippery slope,” but voted in favor of it anyway.
