Dr. Fauci told MSNBC on Thursday (Dec. 30) that the number of children hospitalized with COVID-19 in the U.S. right now is being over-counted because every child that goes in the hospital is automatically tested for SARS-CoV-2.
“If a child goes in the hospital, they automatically get tested for COVID and they get counted as a COVID hospitalized individual. When in fact they may go in for a broken leg or appendicitis or something like that. So it’s over-counting the number of children who are quote—hospitalized with COVID, as opposed to—because of COVID,” Fauci said.
“Either No Symptoms or Minimally Symptomatic”: Fauci Tells the Truth About the People “Who Get Omicron”
Dr. Fauci told MSNBC on Thursday (Dec. 30) the truth about testing positive for the Omicron variant, revealing that data in South Africa, the UK and the US indicates “it very well might not be as severe in many people.”
Fauci said “from studies that are going on right now,” the people “who get Omicron have either no symptoms or [are] minimally symptomatic.”
“What becomes more important is the number of people” who “require hospitalization,” he added—rather than the number of COVID-19 cases.
