South Korea, despite some of the highest COVID-19 vaccination and boosted rates in the world, is now experiencing its worst surge since the onset of the pandemic, with over 400,000 new cases per day based on a seven-day average, along with record deaths and hospitalizations.
In February 2022, the nation of 52 million unrolled a fourth COVID-19 booster dose. Of course, no studies have been conducted on the impact of four doses of any of the COVID-19 vaccines in humans in less than a 1.5-year duration. Thus, the battle against COVID-19 amounts to a real-world experiment.
Clearly, despite the high booster rates using predominantly the Pfizer mRNA vaccination, Omicron has overpowered the vaccine. But is it worse than that?
