Dr. Anthony Fauci, the leader of the U.S. government’s COVID-19 pandemic response effort, has tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.
Fauci, who is quadruple-vaccinated against COVID-19, is experiencing mild symptoms, according to a statement Wednesday (June 15) from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which he leads. In addition to being director of NIAID, which is a division of the National Institutes of Health, Fauci also is Biden’s chief medical advisor.
NIAID said in its statement that “Fauci will isolate and continue to work from home” and follow COVID-19 guidelines issued by the CDC, and “medical advice from his physician and return to NIH when he tests negative.”
