The Indian government has expressed outrage over the World Health Organization’s report that the actual number of covid deaths in India is nearly 10 times higher than official figures, citing questionable data collection by the global organization.
The WHO report released Thursday puts India’s covid deaths at around 4.7 million (including indirect deaths related to covid-weakened health systems), while the government figure is 524,000, and the global estimate is more than three times the official figure.
Not a word, however, is heard from the WHO about death statistics deliberately inflated during the pandemic in the West, which were used as leverage to get people to vaccinate.
