Against the background of record daily COVID-19 cases due to the Omicron variant, the Senate of Hamburg, Germany decided to significantly expand restrictions on Tuesday (Jan. 4).
The previous 2G rules will largely be replaced by 2G-Plus on Monday (Jan. 10) and initially apply for four weeks. In many areas, anyone who has been vaccinated twice or has recovered from COVID-19 will now have to submit a negative SARS-CoV-2 test to participate in much of society. This applies to bars, restaurants, cultural events, and indoor sports. Those who want to meet up with friends in a pub for dinner, must not only show their COVID-19 vaccination or convalescent papers, but also a negative SARS-CoV-2 test.
However, people who have received their COVID-19 booster shot will be exempted from the new 2G-Plus rule. And same as with the 2G rules, unvaccinated people are banned from all such activities.
