Fauci Says We’re Stuck With COVID-19 on a “Chronic Basis” Now
COVID-19 is here to stay, the country’s top infectious disease expert said on Sunday (May 29).
The persistence of the virus means yearly COVID-19 vaccine booster shots could be in store for everyone, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the White House chief medical adviser, told PIX 11 in an interview.
“We’re going to be dealing with this virus on a chronic basis,” Fauci said. “We really hope … it will reach a level low enough that it doesn’t disrupt us to the extent that it has over the past couple of years.”
Motion to Lift COVID-19 Travel Restrictions in Canada Has Been Defeated
The Conservative Party’s attempt to reverse the Liberal government’s stronghold on COVID-19 travel restrictions for Canadians has been denied.
On Monday (May 30) afternoon, the CPC’s motion “Rules and service levels for travel” was defeated 202 to 117.
The motion was sponsored by the Conservative Party’s Melissa Lantsman who cited that citizens are currently “experiencing unacceptable wait times at Canadian airports” and that “current restrictions have been cited by experts as ineffective and contributing to additional delays, costs, and confusion.”
The House called on the Liberal government to “immediately revert to pre-pandemic rules and service levels for travel.”
Before the 3 pm vote, the Conservative Party said the current travel mandates are “outdated, unscientific, and only hurt Canadians and businesses.” The party asked the NDP-Liberal coalition to “follow the science, get in line with our allies, and end the extreme delays.”
