Speaking online at the World Economic Forum on Tuesday (Jan. 18), Dr. Fauci was asked if COVID-19 would finally become endemic in 2022. He said it’s too early to tell and that the world still appears to be in phase one of five.
“Dr. Fauci also said that the world is still in the first of what he considered to be the five phases of the pandemic. The first is the ‘truly pandemic’ phase, ‘where the whole world is really very negatively impacted,’ followed by deceleration, control, elimination and eradication,” The New York Times reported.
Fauci insisted that countries need to reach phase two—what he called the “control” phase—in order to make COVID-19 a “non-disruptive presence” in society. He also warned that the future of the pandemic is still unknown, saying, “The answer is: We do not know.”
He then predicted COVID-19 would be with us forever.
