Three top vaccine experts penned a Washington Post op-ed Thursday (Feb. 10) in opposition of COVID-19 booster shots for people with natural immunity.
Dr. Paul Offit, the co-inventor of the rotavirus vaccine and a former member of the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, and Drs. Luciana Borio and Philip Krause, two former FDA officials, wrote that requiring booster shots is “overkill at best” for Americans who have some level of natural immunity from a COVID-19 infection. At worst, they said, it’s an unnecessary risk.
They argue that public policy has “largely neglected” natural immunity, including policies which mandate booster shots for people who have had COVID-19.
According to the doctors, forcing booster shots on the naturally immune who don’t want them is a total waste of resources.
