When asked on Sunday (Jan. 9) how many of the total 836,000 deaths in the U.S. linked to COVID-19 have been caused “from COVID” and how many were “with COVID” but had other comorbidities, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky failed to deliver a clear answer and started speaking about data associated specifically with the Omicron variant, promising the information would be forthcoming.
“Yes of course, with Omicron we are following that very carefully, our death registry of course takes a few weeks to collect and of course Omicron has just been with us for a few weeks but those data will be forthcoming,” she said.
