Thanks to a new agreement between Australian authorities and Moderna, millions of mRNA vaccines will be produced each year in the country, with the possibility of a combined COVID-19 and flu vaccine in the future.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced on March 24, 2022, that a 10-year partnership between the federal government, the Victorian government and Moderna had been reached.
Moderna will produce up to 100 million mRNA vaccines a year at a facility in Melbourne as part of the agreement, which has been described by the company as a “historic opportunity.
Currently, 95% of people aged 16 and over in Australia are fully vaccinated.
