The first complete Covid-19 vaccine manufacturing plant in Africa was officially opened on Wednesday (Jun 15) in South Africa by president Cyril Ramaphosa.
The Nant-SA Covid-19 manufacturing plant, located in South Africa’s Cape Town will be involved in the production of coronavirus vaccine, from start to finish – the first of its kind in Africa.
According to information released by authorities in South Africa, the Nant-SA coronavirus vaccine manufacturing facility was an initiative by Dr Patrick Soon-Shiong – a US-based South African-born biotech billionaire.
As stated by Dr Patrick Soon-Shiong, “The Nant-SA Covid-19 manufacturing plant will commence the production of Covid-19 vaccine from start to finish, within this year. By 2025, we aim to make a billion doses of the vaccine annually, from this facility.”
The opening of the coronavirus vaccine manufacturing plant in South Africa, will help African countries to access the vaccine with ease, said President Ramaphosa.
