China was unanimously elected to the WHO’s Executive Board on Friday (May 27), despite its attempts to cover up COVID-19 and its subsequent brutal lockdowns.
U.N. Watch Executive Director Hillel Neuer denounced the move, noting “this is the regime that crushed” warnings from Chinese whistleblowers in late 2019, early 2020 and that “not a single democracy spoke out to object.”

Spectator columnist Ross Clark wrote that the WHO is “stuffed with small countries, many with lousy human rights records, which will not dare to challenge China or which will not have the political clout to do so.”
Even Jamie Metzl, a leading advisor for the WHO itself, has stated that China engaged in a “massive cover up” of the coronavirus pandemic.
Indeed, the head of the WHO’s investigation into the origin of COVID-19 has admitted that China told () his team what to write in their report, allowing them to mention the lab leak theory, but only on the condition that they didn’t recommend following it up.
Also, the WHO team lead considers researcher getting infected in the field in the "likely" category —as a mix of "lab-leak" and direct infection— and also says there could have been human error but "the Chinese political system does not allow authorities to acknowledge that." pic.twitter.com/sSHFmA2VVU

Meanwhile, China has refused to cooperate with the renewed WHO probe, declaring that any attempt to look into the lab leak theory goes “against science.”
Awarding China a seat on the WHO’s Executive Board doesn’t make much sense.
