On Wednesday night (Feb. 9), truckers and farmers descended near the U.S.-Canada border in Emerson, Manitoba, Canada to protest against COVID-19 mandates and restrictions in the country.
The protesters erected a sign near the border that reads, “prepare to stop border crossing closed until mandates are lifted.” The blockade was unknown to the police at the time it commenced.
The US-Canada border crossing at Emerson, Manitoba, and Pembina, North Dakota, has been shut down by protesters demonstrating against Covid-19 mandates, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba.

On Thursday (Feb. 10), the Manitoba Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) put out a statement regarding the demonstration in Emerson.
“A demonstration involving a large number of vehicles & farm equipment is blocking the Emerson Port of Entry. No traffic is getting through either northbound or southbound. The Port of Entry is shut down,” the RCMP said.

An individual on the ground says that most traffic has been halted, however, the protesters are allowing trucks transporting livestock to move forward.
