Marvin Morgan dead: Footballer and fashion designer passes away aged 38

Non-league striker and fashion designer Marvin Morgan has tragically died at the age of 38.

Morgan represented Aldershot Town, Shrewsbury Town, Plymouth Argyle and Hartlepool United during his professional career and played as high as League One level.

He recently turned out for Isthmian League Premier Division sides Wingate & Finchley and Hornchuch, while he rose to mainstream fame by running fashion brand Fresh Ego Kid.

Former club Hendon confirmed the sad news of Morgan’s passing with a tweet on Monday which reads: “We are shocked to have learned this morning of the passing of Marvin Morgan at the age of just 38 years old.

NBL star Ben Madgen diagnosed with pericarditis after Pfizer vaccine

Aussie basketball star Ben Madgen says he was hospitalised with a rare inflammatory heart condition after his Covid-19 vaccine.

Madgen, a former NBL leading scorer who retired from professional basketball last year, described his experience in a Twitter post on Sunday that has since been shared nearly 15,000 times.

“Ended up in the emergency room on Wednesday night after taking the second Pfizer shot,” the 36-year-old wrote.

“Diagnosed with pericarditis. The doctor said this is now common after the Pfizer shot, especially with teenage boys and young males.”

An Egyptian football manager has died at the age of 53 after suffering a heart attack while celebrating his team’s stoppage-time winner.

Adham El-Selhadar’s El Magd side netted a goal in the second minute of added on time in their 1-0 victory against El Zarqa in an Egyptian Second League match on Thursday.

The goal sparked jubilant celebrations, before the mood quickly turned sombre when El-Selhadar suffered a heart attack following the goal and was rushed to hospital. 

Ismaily SC – who El Selhadar used to manage – wrote in a statement:  ‘The Ismaily Board of Directors, headed by Engineer Yahya El-Komy, mourns the death of Adham El-Selhadar, a star and former coach of the team, who passed away as a result of a sudden heart attack, following his team’s match, ‘El-Majd’ Alexandria, in the second division league competitions.

 ‘Against this background, the Board of Directors has  declared three days of mourning for the passing of his soul.’

Stevan Jelovac dies after stroke

tevan Jelovac has passed away, AEK confirmed on Sunday. He died at the age of 32 after the stroke he had on November 14.

He was hospitalized in serious condition at Μetropolitan General in Athens. His family had since traveled to the Greek capital attending to the health complications of the recent days. A few days prior, the player was transferred to his home, Serbia.

The Serbian player fainted during individual practice. It was later confirmed he had a stroke.

After the ankle injury forcing him to the sidelines the previous two weeks, he had resumed workouts aiming to return to action.

Over the last ten days, AEK officials stood by his family, while all Greek teams supported him with “Get well soon Stevan” banners held by players to start games of the Stoiximan Basket League.

Before joining the AEK, he played in Turkey, Germany, Russia, Spain, Lithuania, Italy, and Japan after opting to extend his career beyond his home country, Serbia. He went from Mega and Crvena Zvezda to Antalya, Caserta, Rytas, Zaragoza, Nizhny Novgorod, Brose Bamberg, and Gaziantep, and from Europe to Japan and NeoPhoenix.

According to a report by Dr. Yaffa Shir-Raz, there has been a “5-fold increase in sudden cardiac deaths of FIFA players in 2021.

“To get a better picture of the data compared to previous years, we only looked at data relating to deaths among athletes registered with FIFA, and compared the data regarding the number of SCD (sudden cardiac death)/SUD (sudden unexplained death) among these athletes in previous years, to the number of cases in 2021.

Dr. Josh Guetzkow, a senior lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the Institute of Criminology at the Hebrew University, analyzed the data. “An article published in the British Medical Journal shows that the risk of SCD is one in 50,000 (with a range from one in 30,000 to one in 80,000),” he explains. “According to FIFA data, in 2000 there were 242,000 athletes registered in the association, and in 2006 there were 265,000 athletes registered. Assuming FIFA has not changed significantly in twenty years, can expect about 5 deaths a year”.

To find out how many deaths actually occurred during the last two decades among FIFA players (2001-2020), we used Wikipedia – “List of association footballers who died while playing”. To know how many cases occurred in 2021, we used the list collected by us in “Real-Time News” (which includes the cases noted in Wikipedia for 2021).

According to Wikipedia, under “List of association footballers who died while playing”, in 2001-2020 there was an average of 4.2 deaths per year attributed to SCD or SUD, the vast majority being SCD. In contrast, in 2021, according to our list, there were 21 cases of SCD/SUD among FIFA players. In other words, instead of 4 SCD/SUD deaths per year (according to Wikipedia data), or 5 cases per year (calculated according to the BMJ) during 2001-2020, 21 players have died so far this year.”
