All companies in South Africa which make COVID-19 vaccinations mandatory for their staff must compensate their workers should they suffer any adverse side-effects from the injection.

This is one of the new rules adopted for mandatory COVID-19 vaccination by the South African Department of Employment & Labour.

In an amendment on compensation for COVID-19 vaccination side-effects, which was recently published in terms of the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, the Compensation Fund will now cover employees for injuries, illnesses or deaths which occurred as a result of the COVID-19 vaccine.

But this applies only where a worker was required by the employer to receive vaccination as an inherent requirement of employment, or where vaccination was required based on [occupational health and safety] risk assessment conducted by the employer.
