Nearly four weeks after the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 was detected in South Africa, the doctor who first discovered it there—Dr. Angelique Coetzee of the South African Medical Association—is convinced that “it’s mild whether you’re a child, 80, vaccinated or unvaccinated.”
Last month, she told the BBC’s Andrew Marr that the world was “panicking unnecessarily” about Omicron.
