In Austria, over 50,000 people protested in Vienna on Saturday (Jan. 8) against government measures to control the pandemic, including a planned COVID-19 vaccine mandate for the general public.

Local media reported that 100,000 people are expected to join the demonstrations throughout the day. Over 1,000 police officers were deployed at the protest and said the demonstration was largely peaceful.

COVID-19 vaccination is set to become mandatory throughout Austria by April at the latest.
