Marco Buschman (FDP), the German Justice Minister, wants to take action against Telegram because it is being used to oppose COVID-19 measures.

“What is spread on Telegram is disgusting, indecent, and criminal,” said the new German Justice Minister. Buschman called for a “common European legal framework that enables us to take action against hatred and agitation on the Internet.”

Recently, the Lukashenko government in Belarus made it criminal to subscribe to unwanted channels on Telegram.

New German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann takes the oath from the President of the Bundestag (lower house of parliament) Baerbel Bas during a session at the Bundestag (lower house of parliament) in Berlin on December 8, 2021 to swear in ministers of the country’s next cabinet. – Members of the parliament elected Olaf Scholz as new Chancellor, bringing the curtain down on Angela Merkel’s 16-year reign, ushering in a new political era with the centre-left in charge. Together with the Greens and the liberal Free Democrats, Scholz’s SPD managed in a far shorter time than expected to forge a coalition that aspires to make Germany greener and fairer.
