The city of Eindhoven in the Netherlands has installed sound systems in public shopping areas that repeatedly warn citizens to stay away from each other to combat the spread of COVID-19.
“To prevent the spread of the virus: keep one and a half meters away from each other. Stick to the basic rules. Only together can we get corona under control.”
The announcements are played in Dutch and in English every 15 minutes during working hours.
A number of residents above those shops are going screaming mad. A man named Peter lives above one of the shops. He says it makes him ‘crazy’. “It’s like I ended up in a re-education camp.”
“You hear it through the windows. From 9 am to 6 pm you hear the same message every day, even on weekends.”
“It is really forced to you, pointing the finger. You make a visit to Eindhoven very unfriendly in this way. I have experienced many things in my life, but this beats everything.”
